Review

The St. Regis Jakarta is an absolutely fantastic property located in a very prestigious area of Jakarta. While the physical hard product is definitely fantastic, I found that the experienced, exceptionally friendly, and proactive staff were the highlight of my 3 night stay during the opening week of the hotel. Let me elaborate on this topic first.

While the hotel itself is new, many of the staff here come from other prestigious hotels in the area (The Langham, Jakarta’s Club Floor being one of them) bringing their experience along with them. The hotel is also the new home to staff ailing from other world-class properties, such as The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi and The St. Regis Bali. These people know how to make their guests happy.

A common theme I found during my interactions with staff was genuine care for their guests. This translates to them being proactive and also exceptionally attentive towards all of us. Staff are always wandering the hotel, greeting guests by name and asking if they could help them with anything. They did this without being overly intrusive- just the right amount of presence. I apologize as I had so many exceptional interactions I only noted a few names down- I will do a better job of remembering people’s names next time.

Let me shout some out:

Naufal, who worked at the pool area and provided attentive and friendly hospitality toward myself and my girlfriend
Cindy, the Loyalty Manager who checked-in with me throughout my stay,
Ersipit, the Executive who was extremely friendly and provided the most incredible hospitality

And finally, the Breakfast service team:

I have a test called “the Coffee test” which I apply to every breakfast experience I have at a hotel. It basically evaluates the attentiveness of staff towards their guests. The St. Regis Jakarta is the only hotel so far in Jakarta to have passed this test every single night, regardless of how busy the restaurant got. Essentially, it’s the amount of time before a staff approaches you to refill your coffee. If the time my coffee cup is empty is less than a couple minutes, then the hotel passes. The St. Regis Jakarta never let me have an empty coffee cup for more than a minute. I love my coffee in the morning so this is a huge deal for me

More on the breakfast: this is one of the best breakfasts not only in Jakarta, but in the world. The breakfast is an a la carte menu along with a massive, high-quality buffet from Chinese food to Indonesian food with 3 different kinds of fried rice and a pastry section 3 different kinds of marble cake. I’ll have a video up soon on my YouTube channel showcasing the buffet. It’s fantastic.

As expected of being only a week old, the hotel is spotless in every way possible. The ambiance of the hotel is a very beautiful elegance you expect from The St. Regis brand. The lobby and rooms are designed by famous designers from Paris and New York, giving the hotel a modern but also classic feel. The hotel will soon have a spa, a couple high-end restaurants, a gift shop, and the prestigious St. Regis Bar open soon (the bar is already open). You won’t go hungry here. Additionally, the hotel has a couple more casual dining outlets including Rose Gourmand Deli which had an incredible selection of butchered meats, pralines, gelato, sandwiches, unique coffees, and teas.

The pool area, designed by the famous maximalist Bill Bensley, was a place I spent a large amount of time in. It is incredibly relaxing to lounge in the water or in the huge circular sofas. I had the best time listening to a podcast while sipping on a coke while being cared for by Naufal here.

No complaints about the size of the room, either. The room is also one of the only in Jakarta with a balcony.

Finally, the location: while not particularly walking distance from anything, and something I thought was a weak point of the hotel, I honestly don’t think it's as bad. I am currently writing this from the Mandarin Oriental, a hotel located on the famous Bundaran HI where the Grand and Plaza Indonesia shopping malls are in. If you want to go to these malls, it takes about a 10-15 minute walk through a pretty unpleasant area with street vendors staring at you and the requirement to cross some high-traffic roads. If you want to take a car, it takes 10-20 minutes depending on traffic as you have to go around. It also takes, 10-20 minutes by car from The St. Regis. You see where I’m going? The St. Regis is also closer than the Bundaran HI hotels (MO, Kempinski, Grand Hyatt) to the other POIs in Jakarta. The only exception would be if you stayed at the GH or Kempinski- those are connected directly to the malls. However, the St. Regis is definitely still a good location.

I will most definitely be back at this exceptional property soon. I loved every second of my stay here and consider this to be one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had.

Thank you to The St. Regis Jakarta team! See you soon!
